Ambujam Krishna was a lyricist, philanthropist and a connoisseur of music who wrote close to 600 songs . She was the daughter-in-law of industrialist and founder of the TVS group of companies, TVS Sundaram Iyengar. While she led the life of an archetypal housewife, her poetic and literary talents found expression in songs. Her inspiration came from the samadhi of saint and composer, Tyagaraja, at Tiruvaiyyaru. The lyrical quality of her songs were appreciated by the famous musician Musiri Subramanya Iyer who also tuned some of them . Her poems and verses were tuned by renowned musicians like Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer, Dr S Ramanathan and Madurai T N Seshagopalan. Songs like “Om Namo Narayana” in raga Karna Ranjani and “Guruvayoorappane Appan” in Ritigaula have acquired a special popularity and are a testament to the appeal of the lyrics.
