Bhadrachala Ramadasa

A selection of songs of this pre-trinity composer.

Bhadrachala Ramadasa is a 17th century composer whose compositions were inspired by his immense devotion to Lord Rama. He was idolised by none other than composer Tyagaraja who makes a mention of Ramadasa in a few compositions - ‘Kaligiyunte’ in Raga Keeravani is one of them. Desiring to build a temple for Lord Rama in Bhadrachalam, he used funds from the tax revenue in his capacity as a Tahsildar. His severe punishment and later rescue by Lord Rama himself forms part of the fascinating life story of this composer. Ramadasa’s compositions are liked for their simplicity and catchy tunes. Idigo Bhadradri in Raga Varali and Paluke Bangaramayena in Raga Ananda Bhairavi are among the popular ones. This programme presents a selection which includes a few lesser known ones too.
