A tribute to the author, lyricist and freedom fighter, in connection with his birth anniversary on Sep 9.

R Krishnamurthy, popularly known as Kalki, authored thirty-five volumes of short stories, novels, essays, travelogues, and biographies. He is particularly recognized and appreciated as a writer of social and historical novels. Krishnamurthy was also a freedom fighter, traveler, poet, script writer, lyricist, journalist and a connoisseur of the fine arts. He was associated with two leading Tamil magazines, Ananda Vikatan and Kalki, which he founded and edited. He was known for his effective humour, unbiased editorials, and intelligent cultural reviews. This feature presents some of his poems which have been set to tune, as well as songs that he penned for the film Meera.
