Kalpana Swaras

Renditions in ragas Purvikalyani, Navarasa Kannada, Gaula, Abhogi & Sindhuramakriya.

Kalpana Swaras are part of the manodharma aspect of Carnatic music. Kalpana Swaras, or singing of improvised solfa notes, is exciting for the creative and improvisational exercise that it is. Even among the different manodharma aspects, which also include alapana and neraval, kalpana swaras are exciting for the various possibilities and rhythmic combinations. Since a rendition of kalpana swaras consists entirely of swaras, it is also easy to follow. They are also in a sense useful in helping to determine the arohana and avarohana of an unknown raga! This program features a selection of renditions which have a kalpana swara component.
