Lalgudi & Srimathi - Concert

A concert by the popular and highly regarded violin duo of the 1960s & 1970s.

The Lalgudi style of violin playing is known for its robustness and fine modulations that take advantage of the violin's characteristics. While Lalgudi Jayaraman was the leading light of the Lalgudi school, the others in the lineage have been accomplished musicians, too. Lalgudi Jayaraman and his sister Srimathi Brahmanandam forged one of the first popular violin duos on the Carnatic stage. They were highly regarded during their time in the 1960-70s, when they performed to much acclaim. The brother-sister duo complemented each other very well, producing music of high quality, along with the best accompanists of the time, including the redoubtable Palghat Mani Iyer. This concert of the violin duo also features Mani Iyer as one part of the double mridangam support, with the other being his son, T R Rajamani. The concert also shows why the Lalgudi Jayaraman-Srimathi Brahmanandam duo were so popular.
