Muthuswami Dikshitar

A few of Muthuswami Dikshitar's less heard compositions.

Muthuswami Dikshitar followed the asampoorna mela system, as against Tyagaraja, his contemporary, who followed the sampoorna mela system. He has composed in all the 72 asampoorna mela ragas. Dikshitar has also used a wide variety of talas and their variations, and many of them in the slow tempo. The technical range that he has covered in his compositions, whether in the use of ragas or talas, is comprehensive. His compositions delve deep into the ragas and bring out the minute variations that are possible in them. Muthuswami Dikshitar's compositions have not been as popular as Tyagaraja's, though his contribution to the advancement of musical aesthetics and possibilities is crucial. This programme includes a few of Dikshitar's relatively rare compositions.
