A profile of the musician, author, teacher and composer in connection with his death anniversary on November 15.

Mysore V Ramarathnam (20 Dec 1917 - 15 Nov 2008) was a vocalist, musicologist, composer, and a renowned teacher. He headed the Mysore University College of Fine Arts for over a decade. The only vocalist disciple of the violin maestro, Mysore T Chowdiah, Ramarathnam's music training also had an eclectic mix with inputs from, and interaction with, various stalwarts such as Musiri Subramanya Iyer, Chembai Vaidyanatha Bhagavathar, Mysore Vasudevacharya and Ariyakudi Ramanuja Iyengar. His music is not only scholarly but also carries a unique blend of energy and soulfulness. This Artiste Highlight includes his songs and excerpts from an interview with his where he talks about various aspects of music, including his gurukulavasa with T Chowdiah and his views on composing.
