Mysore Vasudevacharya

A programme presenting some lesser heard kritis of Mysore Vasudevacharya.

Mysore Vasudevacharya was a towering musical personality, tracing his musical lineage to Saint Tyagaraja through Manambuchavadi Venkatasubbayyar and Patnam Subramania Iyer. He was a prolific composer -with more than 200 compositions which include pada varnas, tana varnas, kritis, javalis, tillanas and ragamalikas. He has used Telugu and Sanskrit as the media for his kritis. Vasudevacharya's lyrical Telugu used in his kritis is more chaste than that of composers of his time. Some of his most popular kritis are Brochevarevarura in Khamas, Devadideva in Sunadavinodini, Bhajare Re Manasa in Abheri. Sri Chamundeshwari in Bilahari and Ra Ra Rajeevalochana Rama in Mohanam. He used the mudra 'Vasudeva' in his compositions. On this program, we feature some of his lesser known compositions.
