Compositions of the writer and poet in connection with his birth anniversary on September 26.

Periasami Thooran, born on 26 September 1908, was a multifaceted personality. His name was Periasami and he later adopted the name Thooran as his pen name. He was born in 1908, and was influenced early in life by Subramania Bharati and wrote poems and stories as a student. Thooran went on to be involved in anti-colonial literature and wrote patriotic and nationalistic songs. His song, Aadu Raatte, became something of an anthem, and N C Vasanthakokilam and D K Pattammal used to sing it and other songs often. Thooran's songs, which number around 600 cover a wide range of subjects - nationalistic, spiritual, religious and moral - and his literary skills are evident in these songs. Among some of Thooran's popular songs are Muruga Muruga in Raga Saveri, Kaliyuga Varadan in Raga Brindava Saranga, and Gananathane in Raga Saranga. Periasami Thooran passed away on 20 January 1987. This programme that includes a few of Thooran's compositions is in connection with his birth anniversary.
