'Poochi' Srinivasa Iyengar

Compositions of the eminent composer who came in Tyagaraja's shishya parampara.

Ramanathapuram Srinivasa Iyengar was a 19th century composer who composed over 100 pieces. He was referred to as Poochi Srinivasa Iyengar or sometimes just 'poochi'. He was a student of Patnam Subramania Iyer. As such, Poochi came in the direct line of Tyagaraja's disciples. His compositional style is also similar to that of his guru, Patnam, and follows that of Tyagaraja. Among his compositions are two very popular varnams ‘Ninnu Kori’ in raga Mohanam and ‘Vanajakshiro’ in raga Kalyani. The programme includes some well known compositions and a rare varnam.
