Pre-Trinity Composers

The trinity defined today's Carnatic music, but there were others before who shaped their work.

The works of poets, poet-composers, haridasas have very much shaped Carnatic Music and laid the foundation for the work that was to be carried on by the Trinity and later composers. For this gave a definite plan regarding the song structure, its technique and lyricism and also the way Carnatic music developed. In a way these pre-trinity composers defined and differentiated South Indian classical music from its North Indian counterpart by their innovations in the ragas, scales, verses, metres and rhythmical usages. In this two- part segment, sample the compositions of Muthutandavar, Tirunavukkarasar, Jayadeva, and others.
