Raga Todi

Suguna Purushottaman sings an RTP in raga Todi in the Simhanandana tala, the longest tala in Carnatic music.

The Simhanandana tala is the longest of the talas in Carnatic music, consisting of 128 beats, divided into 18 sections. The entire tala cycle is split up as follows:

8+8+4+12+4+8+2+2+8+8+4+12+4+12+8+4+4+16.

Simply put, if one counts adi tala 16 times, it would equate to one avarta of Simhanandana tala, though of course, the beats wouldn't always match. Suguna Purushottaman is a master of pallavis and talas, which she has shown in her pallavis in complex talas and also in her dwitala avadhana pallavis. This pallavi in Raga Todi is set in Simhanandana tala, and the pallavi line is:
Narasimha Nandana Priya Ahobila Vaasa,
Bhakta Poshaka Prahlada Varada Nin Charane Gati.
Parama Kripanidhi Neeyandro
Shankaranai Kaaththa Aapatbaandhava Vaa Vaa
