Srirangam

The abode of Ranganatha, the reclining form of Vishnu.

The temple of Srirangam is one of the grandest in India, and is a treasure house of art, displaying various architectural styles over time. Srirangam is the foremost of the 108 Divya Desams, and is closely associated with Ramanujacharya, the beacon of the Sri Vaishnava tradition of Hinduism. Araiyar Sevai, one of the ancient devotional traditions involving the expressive recitation of the Divya Prabandams, originated here under Nadamuni. The deity of Ranganatha is also the subject of quite a few beautiful compositions in Carnatic music by various composers.
