Tiruvotriyur Pancharatna Kritis

This feature presents the Tiruvotriyur Pancharatna Kritis of Tyagaraja.

The temple at Tiruvotriyur near Chennai, is dedicated to Lord Shiva in the form of Tyagaraja, and his consort, Goddess Tripurasundari. Tiruvotriyur was the birth place of the musician, composer and patron Veena Kuppiyer, who became a disciple of the composer Tyagaraja. At the behest of Veena Kuppiyer, Tyagaraja visited Tiruvotriyur and stayed with his disciple. Here, he composed five songs dedicated to Goddess Tripurasundari, also known as Vadivudai Amman. These songs are referred to as the 'Tiruvotriyur Pancharatna Kritis'.
