Trinity - Common Ragas 1

Part 1 of the series featuring the 28 ragas that are common to the trinity of composers

Tyagaraja, Muthuswami Dikshitar and Syama Sastri are central to the canon of modern Carnatic music. Out of the 700-odd compositions of Tyagaraja, 300-odd of Dikshitar and 60-odd of Syama Sastri, there are only 28 ragas that have been used by all three of them. A part of the reason could be difference in the system that Dikshitar followed, and also the fact that so few of Syama Sastri's compositions are available. This is the first part of a series that runs through the 28 ragas that the three contemporary composers have in common with one another. This programme presents compositions in three of the ragas - Kalyani, Begada and Saveri.
