Trinity - Special Compostions

Songs of the three foremost composers - Tyagaraja, Muthuswami Dikshitar and Syama Sastri.

This theme features compositions of the trinity of composers in Carnatic music - Tyagaraja, Muthuswami Dikshitar and Syama Sastri - and highlights different compositions and aspects of these kritis. There is so much among these composers that we take for granted, simply because of our familiarity. For instance, we are so familiar with Tyagaraja's composition, Brova Bhaarama, that we don't realize that it isn't all that common a raga, though it is very popular because of the kriti. There are ragas that we are aware of and know well through just a composition or two by one or more of the trinity of composers. At the same time, there are also dozens of compositions that are remarkable for both their aesthetic and technical finesse but are not really popular. This programme features a few of these "special" compositions of the Trinity.
